5 Ways To Get Buy-in For Your Storytelling Vision

“I love MemoryFox! It would make my life SO much easier. But, I need to convince my boss”.

Does this sound like you? Let us set the scene: You’ve just watched a killer demo from our MemoryFox crew, and you know this is a game-changing content collection, organization and distribution tool.

Now you just need to get funding approval, but your Leadership Team needs some convincing…

You’ve been tasked with advocating for MemoryFox on your own, and we know exactly how to help you. Here are 5 ways to convince for when your Leadership Team you need MemoryFox:

  1. If they ask “Why do we need this?”

…tell them that video content is not “the future” – it is the NOW. Let MemoryFox help you amplify your mission.

The best time to start collecting and distributing video content was 2 years ago. The second best time to start collecting and distributing video content is NOW.

According to our friends at Hubspot, “audiences are spending an average of 19 hours a week watching videos online. Ignoring video marketing is no longer an option for brands who want to excel.”

It is not an option to keep running from the inevitable: Your nonprofit needs to tell stories, and they need to tell them now. MemoryFox makes it easy

  1. If they say “Can’t people just text you videos and photos?”

…well, yes. Text messaging is one way to send videos and photos. But this seemingly simple process is riddled with pitfalls…

First, most of the content you receive is from program participants and volunteers – AKA people who do not need, and should not have, your personal cell phone number. Using your cell phone for content collection is a slippery slope that can lead to work/life boundaries being crossed.

Second, once the content is on your cellphone – then what?? Just because it is easier for the content generator to send it to YOU, does not make it easier for you to use. You are still left with content floating around between texts, photos, uploads, emails, etc. Skip all the hassle (and waste less time) by using MemoryFox from the start.

  1. If they say “Ok that makes sense, but can’t people just email them to you?”

…yes, they can send an email. But this is a timely, unorganized process.

It’s worth repeating: Just because it is easy for the content generator to send it to YOU, does not make it easier for you to use. When people email images or videos, they often are resized to fit in the email. This leads to images arriving so small that they are unusable, and no one likes a blurry image!

On the flip side, sometimes the size of a file is so large that the content generator needs to send it through a third party avenue. This is a common occurrence with video content!

Transferring large files comes with an array of obstacles, like:

  • DropBox requires the sender to have an account and log in.
  • Google Drive links only work for those who use Google Suite.
  • WeTransfer links expire after 7 days.

With MemoryFox, there is no download or account setup required for users to submit stories. MemoryFox is 100% compatible with iPhone, Android and desktop computers. Plus, your content will never expire – it will remain in your MemoryFox account where you can tag and sort as needed, forever.

Having a one-stop content collection hub brings a level of professionalism and sophistication to your brand. Your audience will notice how organized you are, and will note the trustworthiness of your brand.

  1. Ok, you’ve convinced them of the product value! But what if they ask “Where will the funding come from?”

MemoryFox is not just for the fundraising team!

The most obvious way to use MemoryFox is to collect program participant testimonials to use for fundraising purposes.

But, we are here to tell you that our Storytellers have found innovative ways to perform their mission through story collection and storytelling. Since our capabilities cross departmental lines, we encourage you to use funding from several departments.

(Yes, you read that correctly!)

Urban League of Metropolitan Seattle MemoryFox

The Urban League of Metropolitan Seattle (ULMS), who used MemoryFox to support their public health focus when vaccine hesitancy was rampant in their community. They knew if they could connect trusted doctors with their communities through conversation, they could save lives. That’s where MemoryFox came in. With 40+ videos collected, they were able to change lives through 1,000+ vaccinations at 30 local pop-up clinics.

Everyday, we are finding new ways that all nonprofit departments are creating value with MemoryFox. Here just a FEW types of content your organization could collect:

  • Client testimonials
  • Program participant feedback
  • Donor & Board Member stories
  • Volunteer experiences
  • Special events attendee stories
  • Staff videos (birthdays, holidays, work anniversaries, etc.)

The content you collect can (and should) be used in a variety of ways, including:

  • Fundraising appeals
  • Sponsorship & grant applications
  • Present at Board meetings
  • Building program strategy
  • Program execution
  • Social media engagement
  1. If your team is still hesitating… make them say “yes”! Even if it’s a small “yes”.

Here are a few questions that will make them say “yes”!

  • Do you think our organization has great stories to tell?
  • Wouldn’t it be nice to empower our program participants/volunteers/donors to share their positive experiences with us?
  • Do you agree that collecting and creating video content is something we need to do more of?
  • Wouldn’t it be great to have all of our video and photo content organized in one place?

You may have heard of this “yes-loading strategy” before. According to Cirrus Insight: “The “yes-loading” strategy is one of the most effective sales psychology techniques. It relies on the fact that people are more likely to say “yes” to big questions if they follow a series of smaller questions.

By asking them these questions, your Leadership Team is conceptualizing the value of MemoryFox. Sometimes, a shift in perspective is the best way to change someone’s mind!

Finally, if your Leadership Team remains on the fence, let’s set them up with a MemoryFox demo

Our team would love the opportunity to show them firsthand all the ways we can amplify the mission of your incredible organization.
