MemoryFox
What Is MemoryFox? A Quick Guide for Beginners
What exactly is MemoryFox? That is what I asked myself for the first two weeks since I started working here, but now, one month later, I am an expert (kind of).
I’ve learned a lot and have been pleasantly surprised by the capabilities of the platform, so I thought I’d answer the question: What is MemoryFox? and share with all of you nonprofit and fundraising superheroes what I know.
Without picking apart every finite detail and feature of what the MemoryFox platform can do, here is an overview of what MemoryFox is from a fellow newbie!
What is MemoryFox?
MemoryFox is a tech company that helps nonprofits with their fundraising and marketing through the power of community storytelling.
By watching how MemoryFox works with nonprofit organizations, I learned that storytelling and collecting testimonials are a hugely important part of what nonprofit professionals, like you, do. Nonprofit leaders and fundraisers want to hear from their community members – whether it’s positive encouragement to inspire others and spread their message, or feedback and insight into the work being done.
As someone who has consumed content from countless organizations, I did not realize how difficult and time-consuming it can be to collect, organize, and share the photos, videos, and written testimonials you encounter. Especially when taking into account the not-so-small details of ethics and consent. I wouldn’t have known where to start.
In short, MemoryFox solves a problem I didn’t even know existed.
Here’s How MemoryFox Works:
Creating Story Collection Campaigns To Capture Your Stories
The first step after logging into MemoryFox is creating a “campaign” that you can use to collect your impact stories. Creating a great campaign involves a few steps, including crafting the storytelling prompts you will send out to your community members. Prompts can be anything from a direct question you would like community members to answer, photos or videos from a recent event, or a gentle guide to encourage your storytellers to share their personal experiences. Once you’ve shared your campaign with your community, the link can be opened on anyone’s device for them to record or upload any content they choose to share.
Another important feature of the campaigns that saves you from a lot of headaches is receiving consent for each piece of content. Before making a submission, your community member has to consent to have their story shared.
This is just one of the ways that MemoryFox is set up to create a safe space for anyone to share as much or as little as they’d like. From what I’ve seen, it yields genuine, heartfelt messages that evoke positive connections and emotions in the community.
Keeping Your Story Submissions Organized
After looking through past campaigns from MemoryFox Storytellers, I was shocked by how much content can be captured so quickly! All the submissions are compiled into a convenient Story Bank where you can easily scroll through to view everything at once and sort out what pieces would be most beneficial to your goals.
Sharing Your Impact Stories More Easily With Canva
By witnessing the ins and outs of fundraising and marketing campaigns that nonprofits experience, I learned that it’s not as easy as I thought to slap together a social media post and automatically get the awareness your cause deserves.
MemoryFox provides a feature that I think is pretty unique. They partnered with Canva to actually help you bring your story to life. Once you have all your content, you aren’t left in the dust trying to upload everything to all your different channels.
Instead, with their Canva Integration, your entire Story Bank automatically populates in your Canva account, and you can edit it from there. I had only ever used Canva to make presentations, and I didn’t realize they already had templates for short-form videos and infographics specifically designed for social media. I recently used Canva to create my own composite video, and it was so much easier than I thought it would be.
The #1 Ethical Storytelling Tool for Nonprofits
Overall, I am happy that MemoryFox exists, and I hope it continues to grow. In the age of digital communication, I think it’s genius to have tools like this that will actually help you make a difference.
My favorite part about MemoryFox is the push to be ethical. It’s become too easy to exploit people’s stories, sometimes without even realizing it, and MemoryFox really works to spread as much positivity as possible by helping YOU spread positivity. That makes a difference. As it turns out, the internet can still be used for good.
You can start using MemoryFox at your nonprofit, agency or foundation today! Get started by choosing the perfect storytelling membership now.
